Even though the new album places itself in continuity with the first one (which also bore the name “l’ocelle mare” and was released in January 2007 on the label Ruminance and reedited by Sickroom records in 2008), porte d’octobre is a disc about transformation, achievement of a cycle and new questionings. Where before the forms, though apparently left hanging, were perfectly demarcated, pieces here are less autonomous, telescoping and echoing each other; within one piece the sound may shift, coming from different places, creating continuity from fragmentation. In a way it is the work of a mosaicist: the form in its totality, down to the smallest detail, is being considered. La porte d’octobre is also more similar to a narrative form than the previous album. It bears within itself a point of rupture: a de-composition opening new paths.

The sound was recorded once again by Adrian Riffo using the same process as for the previous album ( two microphones and a portable DAT). His work was done in three sessions in Paris between May and November 2007 (in the tunnels north of Paris called “la petite ceinture,” in the Montparnasse cemetery, in the great amphitheater of the Sorbonne, in the train Station la Gare du Nord, in an apartment, etc...). The acoustics become an active part of the sound. Sometimes the physical place has as strong a musical presence as that of the guitar, the banjo, the harmonica, the metronome, the tuning forks, the feet tapping.
